Walk for water on Worlds Water Day 22nd March
History
World
Water Day is held annually
on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater
and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World
Water Day has been observed on 22 March since 1993 when
the United Nations General Assembly declared 22 March as "World
Day for Water". This day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the
1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. A day when the world turns
its attention towards the 750 million people who lack access to safe water. But
every day of the year can be a Water Day.
A walk separated the
primordial human from other animals. However long, a walk begins with just one
step and the sole determination to reach the goal. Let’s walk again, this time
to preserve the very basic source that gave birth to life – Water! A drop of
water could mean life, health, livelihood, quality of life and industry. This
precious bounty of Nature – Water is under threat from us. Decades of misuse,
continued infiltration, polluting of the life source liquid by humans across
generations has put the future of our children at a big risk of not having
enough water to even drink.
